Taking Stress Out of Waiting to Get Pregnant

A lot of factors contribute to the success of a woman getting pregnant but it is quite difficult to determine exactly the duration of having a successful pregnancy.

Some factors that should be considered for couples who want to have a baby are intercourse or sexual contact that are timed following schedule of ovulation and cycle of women, and quality and quantity of sperm. In addition, couples should consider a healthy lifestyle free from smoking, alcohols, and drugs, a balanced and nutritious diet, and maintaining a normal weight for their age. These factors are more important for women who will bear the baby in their womb for nine months. Taking folate supplements and multivitamins, and avoiding caffeine also contribute significantly to a healthy childrearing.

The chances of getting pregnant increases as the duration of trying to get pregnant increases. For example, by 4 years there is as high as 95 percent success of pregnancy, compared to 30 percent in one month of trying. There are again aspects that influence these chances of getting pregnant such as the age of the couples, especially the women. As women age, there is a decreasing chance and high difficulty of pregnancy. This can be assisted by a fertility specialist who can offer ways to a successful pregnancy depending on the reproductive condition of the couples. Nevertheless, there is a high percentage of about 80-90 chance that women can naturally bear a child, which are more likely in women who are up to 27 years old.

Again, pregnancy may be difficult if expected immediately like for a month or two of trying considering the age of women. This is because of the fact that the number of eggs decreases in age, and the quality becomes poorer in women at later age. Infertility, miscarriages, and pregnancy complications may arise because of this. Older couples should also be patient in expecting a baby because the percentage of natural pregnancy in women of 40-44 years decreases to roughly 36 percent in a year of trying. This is quite low compared to 86 percent for women in their 20s.

Chances of pregnancy can be increased by two simple ways. By measuring the lowest body temperature, ovulation days can be determined thus sexual intercourse can be timed 0-5 days before ovulation to increase success of pregnancy. Also, by knowing the ovulation days, sexual intercourse can be timed in alternating day 5 days prior to ovulation since sperms last to about five days until eggs are released for fertilization.

There are a lot to consider for a couple who tries to have a baby. By maintaining a healthy lifestyle, considering ovulation days, and actively trying to have a baby, chances of getting pregnant increases from 38 percent in a month to around 90 percent in a year.
