Last week ,we went to Coney Island and the experience reminded me of raising kids.I was terrified to go on my first ride but on the following rides I was less scared. I realized being afraid was not going to help me get over my fears ,so I decided to just enjoy the experience. Similarly, parents might be afraid at first of becoming parents or parenting itself ,but we should know that there is really nothing to fear. We should welcome and enjoy it because it will be the best ride of our lives.

Today, we will discuss some ways to overcome parenting fears.

Just Do It:
We fear things that are strange or new. Realize that no one is born knowing anything. I used to be afraid of changing the poo ,but I am no longer afraid. If I never changed my first poo diaper, then I would still be afraid. Don’t worry about messing up because there is no such thing as perfect parenting. The best way to get over your fears is to do the things you are most afraid.

Common Sense Parenting:

You know more than you think you know. Our common sense leads us to make good decisions. One day when I was babysitting, and my daughter would not stop crying, so I decided to take a layer of clothes off ;she immediately stopped crying. She was too hot. Trust your common sense.

Speak to other Parents:
Your best parenting resources are not blogs, books, or magazines;rather, your best resources will be other parents. Those resources are important but not as important as having access to fellow parents. My wife calls her mother and/or aunt when we don’t know what to do when our daughter is sick.

Read,Read,Read….:
Knowing is half the battle. That was the slogan for the GI Joe cartoon I used to watch when I was growing up ,and it absolutely true. The more you know about becoming and being a parent the more you will be prepared. Before our daughter was born,my wife and I use to read everything we could get our hands on related to becoming a parent and parenting. We use to read baby talk magazine, what to expect when you are expecting, what to expect the first year and an array of blogs.
